Breath and Posture – Yogic Techniques for the Musician

As part of our Workshop Series at the 2012 Convention, we will be offering courses on breathing and posture as it relates to musicianship.  These courses will be led by musician and yoga instructor Iffet Cochran.

Iffet Cochran has been sharing the gift of the Yoga practice for over 5 years. Before becoming a Yoga Instructor, Iffet was a professional Horn player with the Richmond (VA) symphony for 5 seasons. She came to Richmond after receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in French Horn Performance from The Juilliard School.  Iffet shares the ancient science of Yoga with humor, life-experience and many years of training under the “masters” of our time.

Ms. Cochran’s method is approachable and grounded in tradition, and based on her years of teaching over 3000 hours and hundreds of students. As well as teaching classes during the week, she is currently Director of the KARUNA Yoga Teacher Training Program at 4025
Yoga and Wellness in Richmond, Virginia.

The goal of these workshops is to instruct participants in some concepts of Yogic breathing and proper spinal alignment, to practice yogic breathing techniques and improve posture using intentional, focused movement, and to incorporate yogic breathing in preparation for musical performance.  We think that this is something that will benefit numerous brothers in attendance, and provide a fun, relaxing, and informative presentation that can increase the quality of our musicianship.
